  • Holocaust - Year 6

    Fri 28 Feb 2020

This week in Year 6 classes, pupils have been learning about survivors of the Holocaust, focussing on Suzanne, who showed bravery and resilience in her battle to hide from Hitler's Nazi Army. The pupils have been retelling Suzanne's story as a narrative for their extended writing.

Simon said "We learnt that due to Hitler, other people's lives were at risk. People were killed because of their religion. Madame Cloome helped Suzanne to escape Hitler. Her life was changed and she would have been killed if it was not for Madame Cloome's bravery."

Summer said "Suzanne's life was changed upside down when the Nazi's were occupying France. The soldiers told Suzanne's family to pack up and leave but Madame Cloome saved Suzanne's life by helping her to escape."

  • Maths 24 Games

    Fri 28 Feb 2020
This week Normandy took on 21 teams in the Maths 24 Games, securing ourselves second and third place. Our teams showed resilience, fantastic maths skills and kindness to others as they took on the other schools. We had 2 individual top scorers in Charlie and Ardit. Being a year younger than all other competitors did not hold back our strong teams and we will be going to the Civic Chambers this Summer to battle against Greenwich schools for the best borough title, something we have helped Bexley secure for the 3 years since the 24 Games started. Well done Team Normandy!
  • Florence Nightingale - Year 2

    Tue 25 Feb 2020

This week, our Year 2 pupils have been continuing their studies on their topic on 'Pioneering Women' by focussing on Florence Nightingale. They learnt that Florence Nightingale was a nurse who helped soldiers who were hurt in the Crimean War and was known as the 'Lady of the Lamp' because she carried a lamp with her when she checked her patients in the night.

Frankie said "Florence Nightingale was a nurse who went to help in the Crimean War. She helped clean the hospitals to make the soldiers better."

Boycie said "Florence was a nurse born in 1820. She helped the soldiers by giving them medicine."

    Fri 14 Feb 2020

Pupils in Nursery have been making biscuits to celebrate Valentine's Day. They used a plain digestive as their base and covered these with icing which they coloured using food dye. They then added sprinkles to the top to make their biscuits look extra special.

Alice said "I enjoyed making my biscuit".

Kayse said "They look tasty, I like them".

  • Superhero Day - 'Reception Classes'

    Fri 14 Feb 2020
This term, pupils in Reception Classes have been learning about 'Superheroes' as part of their topic. For the last week of topic, all of the children in Reception celebrated a brilliant term of learning by coming to school dressed up as 'Superheroes'. They started the day by making super sandwiches and fruit kebabs. The children had to be very careful and concentrate hard but they used their Superhero skills and did a fantastic job! This was followed by a Superhero picnic! They then built super buildings and created super structures using their teamwork skills. It is well known that Superheroes need down time to build their powers up again so the children, sorry 'Superheroes', then took part in a Superhero Yoga session. They had such a super day and it was lovely to see all of the children in their bright costumes. Thank you to all of the parents for the children's super costumes!
  • How are Rainbows formed? - Year 6

    Thu 13 Feb 2020

Pupils in Year 6 have been considering how rainbows are formed. The children were asked if they could attempt to recreate this phenomena using different transparent resources, such as glass prisms, magnifying glasses and coloured plastic.

Archie said "It was magnificent to make our own rainbow."

Artemij commented "I enjoyed it because it helped me to learn how rainbows are formed and how spectrums look."

Isla said "It was a great experience as I didn't know how light refracting would work. It was great to see how light reacts to things."

Annie said "I had fun learning about this. It was enjoyable and interesting."

  • E-Safety Day

    Tue 11 Feb 2020
This week we celebrated the internet and all the wonderful things that it has to offer. We also had an E-Safety day on Tuesday where the E-Safety Committee delivered two assemblies for each key stage. They shared ideas and tips on how to stay safe online and asked the children questions to ensure they understood. The E-Safety Committee recommend that adults check the age restrictions before downloading apps and make sure to put parental controls onto all devices connecting to the internet. Thank you to the E-Safety Committee for a fantastic and informative assembly.
