  • Well Being Assembly

    Mon 29 Apr 2019

We welcomed Pascale, the Public Health Advisor for Children and Young People, into school to deliver a Well Being assembly to pupils in Years 1 to 6. (Reception classed discussed well being in class). She spoke to the children about what to do if they felt worried about something and how to keep positive in stressful situations. Some tips she shared with the children were:

    • Get into a good sleep routine - do something before bed like reading a book
    • Exercise - Being active helps our mental well being
    • Health Eating - Eating healthy food improves your mood, gives you energy and helps you to think clearly
    • Personal Hygiene - Keeping ourselves clean improves our health
    • Keep Hydrated - Drinking water keeps our brain working
  • English/ Creativity Family Engagement

    Thu 25 Apr 2019

Over the Easter holidays we asked pupils to design and create a story box as part of their English/ Creativity topic. This could be based on a short story that they have read or a story they made up!

On Thursday 25th April, Mrs Muller, our English Leader, held a Family Engagement session where parents and carers were invited along after school to view the wonderful and creative story boxes. It was a fantastic turn out and we were so impressed with the amazing work and imaginative ideas. Well done to all of the children who produced some beautiful pieces of work.

We received some fantastic feedback from parents who attended. Some examples of a few comments we received are:

"It was great to see the children so proud of their work being displayed."

"We enjoyed making our box and had fun thinking of a book about Space."

"There was lots of parental input which was very encouraging to see. Thank you for organising."

  • Easter Bonnet Parade

    Thu 04 Apr 2019

Our fantastic PTA organised an Easter Bonnet Parade for pupils in our Nursery and Reception classes. We had some cracking entries and the children were beaming with pride as they walked around the playground showing off their wonderful creations to their parents and families. A winner was chosen from each class with each winner receiving an Easter egg as their prize. All children took home mini goody bags from the PTA.

Well done to all of the children (and parents) for such 'Eggcellent' effort and 'Eggxtraordinary' entries!

  • NSPCC Workshop

    Tue 02 Apr 2019

We invited two representatives from the NSPCC into Normandy Primary to deliver a Speak Out, Stay Safe assembly. The point of this assembly was to make sure our pupils have the knowledge and understanding they need to stay safe from abuse. This is a nationwide programme for every primary-school-aged child in the UK and Channel Islands. With the help of their friendly mascot Buddy, they presented the assembly to the children in our school as well as a workshop of children in Years 5 and 6. If you would like any more information about the Speak Out, Stay Safe programme you can visit the NSPCC website nspcc.org.uk/buddy

  • Maths 24 Club

    Mon 01 Apr 2019

On 1st April, 88 school across London went head to head for a place in the finals of the Count on Us Primary Challenge, a Maths competition involving shape, number and code breaking activities. The games are an annual event run by the Mayor's Fund for London to both encourage and recognise budding mathematicians and raise the profile of Maths among students.

On the day, there were 2 team rounds and an individual round. Normandy Primary School performed brilliantly against stromg competition and won FIRST place and a guaranteed place in the finals which will see our team compete with 14 other schools in London at City Hall. Our team has performed exceptionally well and their hard work and determenation has really paid off.

Normandy has also competed in the Bexley Games and has managed to be awarded one of the top teams and invited to the Civic Chambers to compete against the top schools in Greenwich.

The events were a brilliant experience for all the students at Normandy and a fantastic way to spotlight Maths education in the borough. We are extremely proud of all the children who have contributed to the team's success and are looking forward to our next challenge. Well done team Normandy!

Abigail commented "Monday was the best thing that could have happened to me. We went to City Hall to play 24 Games. I went with Miss Martin and Miss Hutchinson, all of us were nervouse because there were a lot of children. 24 Games has helped me to improve my mental maths skills to become more confident in maths. I never thought we would come this far!"
