  • Year 5 Learning

    Fri 31 Jan 2020

Year 5 have been exploring their topic of 'Extreme Weather through the books of 'The Wizard of Oz' by L.F.Baum. The children explored writing of the setting and description of the cyclone wreaking havoc through the farm, before whisking Dorothy away to the Land of Oz.

Here are some fabulous quotes from their writing:

Charley, 5Q "The cyclone eagerly approached my farm like a predator stalking it's prey. I was greatly struggling to keep hold of Toto, my dog. I felt like I was being whipped by a violent blast which hurt like I was being beaten by a boxer."

Ava, 5R "Frantically, houses galloped through the fields in desperation, looking to escape the hellish nightmare."

Daniel, 5S "As the sound became louder and louder, I witnessed the large deadly cyclone invading the farm like a demon bear. Unrecognisable objects flung across the dark, gloomy sky."

  • Year 1 Learning

Pupils in Year 1 have continued their learning on Dinosaurs this week as part of their topic. The children designed their own dinosaurs looking at the features of dinosaurs they had been studying, for example, long necks, sharp teeth, speed etc. They explored why different features helped each dinosaur. Last week, the children developed their colour mixing skills creating colourful backgrounds for dinosaur silhouettes.
  • Year 2 termly topic - 'Pioneering Women'

    Fri 31 Jan 2020
Year 2's topic this term is 'Pioneering Women'. Last week they learnt about Amy Johnson who was the first female to fly from Great Britain to Australia. In science, they explored who could make the best paper aeroplane that flew the furthest and measured the distance for maths. They explored the story of Rosa Parks through role play. The year 2 teachers set up a 'bus' in the hall but as children and teachers got on this bus, they were directed to sit in different places. The children were allowed to sit wherever they wanted to but the teachers were only allowed to sit at the back of the bus...because they were old! The children explored their feelings and thought this was really unfair, and explained their reasons in a really mature manner. The children then found out about the story of Rosa Parks who refused to give up her seat to a white person back in the 1950s when there was segregated seating on buses.

    Thu 16 Jan 2020

Shane (Year 6), Abigail (Year 6) and Wade (Year 7 and ex pupil of Normandy) were awarded a special certificate by the Deputy Mayor of Bexley at an award ceremony for Bexley yesterday. All three pupils had been nominated by us here at Normandy for special recognition of their achievement in school.

Shane - for taking every day in his stride. He has matured immensely over the last year and achieved high standards.

Wade - for being an absolute delight to teach in primary and achieving high standards, rising to challenges and showing exceptional resilience.

The ceremony was an amazing experience and we are all extremely proud. WELL DONE.

We incited parents and carers of Early Years and KS1 pupils along to a Maths 'Numbots' presentation this week. Numbots is a platform for boosting number recognition, addition and subtraction skills produced by the creators of Times Tables Rock Stars. • Year 3 Titanic Workshop

    Fri 10 Jan 2020
Our Year 3 pupils took part in an interactive drama workshop about the Titanic, delivered to them by the Freshwater Theatre Company relating to their topic on 'Frozen Planet'. The children were taken back to April 14th 1912 where they learned about the ill-fated maiden voyage of the infamous Titanic ship and how tragedy struck. Through role-play, the children stepped aboard and imagined what it was like to be passengers from first, second and third class, and explored the ship's magnificent interior, met the Captain and became part of the crew.
