Science Week
Fri 15 Mar 2019This week pupils at Normandy Primary School have been celebrating Science Week. The children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in various experiments and investigations relating to all things 'Science'.
Pupils in Reception classes looked at the fairy-tale story 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and discussed how the beans grew in the ground to make a large beanstalk. They also planted their own beans and will be watching the process over the coming week to see how their beans are growing. As well as growing beans, Reception classes also looked at the fairy-tale story of 'The Three Little Pigs' and looked at which materials are the best to build a house. Year 2 classes investigated if children with the biggest hands also have the biggest feet. They worked in groups and measured their hands and feet and wrote their findings up.
Year 3 classes made the best egg protector as part of their science experiements. They worked in groups and designed the 'safest' egg protector and then dropped their eggs from a height to see if the egg stayed protected.
Year 5 classes continued their studies on their current Science topic 'Space and Beyond'. They looked at different planets in the Solar System and composed their own mnemonics to help them remember the order of the planets. For example: My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nachos (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune).

Science Fair
Thu 14 Mar 2019To celebrate Science Week here at Normandy Primary School, Mr McDonald, our Science Lead Teacher, hosted a Science Fair on Thursday after school. This was an opportunity for pupils and families to come along and see some of the amazing science based learning that our pupils achieve here at Normandy. It was fantastic to see so many pupils and their parents attend and I am delighted with the wonderful inventions that were entered into the competition. They were magnificent! We have some budding scientists in our school and potential Dragon Den entrepreneurs. Well done to all of you who entered. -
World Book Day 2019
Fri 08 Mar 2019This week children at Normandy Primary School celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite book character. This is always such a fantastic day and an exciting opportunity for the children to express themselves by way of dressing up as their favourite book character. What a fantastic effort all of the pupils went to with an amazing display of characters in costume. The teachers also got involved which was lovely for the children to see. The class teachers chose a winner from each class and the winners won a pencil and a rubber. Well done to everybody who took part; what a brilliant effort! -
Book Fair
Tue 05 Mar 2019A huge thank you to all of you who attended our Book Fair. It was wonderful to see so many of you in attendance, browsing through the large variety of books on offer for all ages and reading abilities. I was particularly delighted to see how excited the children were when they left clutching their new books. We took many orders and raised an outstanding £418.09 which will go towards books for the children's book corners in their classrooms. Thank you as always for your continued support, which makes a huge difference to the pupils here at Normandy Primary School. -
