    Fri 06 May 2022

We held a FAB assembly this week where the pupils were introduced to one of Pelham Primary's wonderful Dog Mentors, Teddy. Miss Brophy and Miss Beasley from Pelham came over to visit us and spoke to the pupils about the benefits of having a Dog Mentor in school. Our pupils learnt how to be around dogs and found out some useful facts about Dog Mentors. We are so excited that Hugo (our Dog Mentor) will be working with us.

  • FAB Girls Football Team

    Fri 29 Apr 2022

We are so incredibly proud of both our football teams this season. Mr Turpin, Bexley Primary School Sport Council Chairman, has awarded Fairford Academy Barnehurst's girls football team the leagues special award. He was incredibly impressed with our resilience throughout the league, also how as a team we showed the other schools what the league is about. He added that we always turned up with smiles on our faces, played with smiles on our faces and left with smiles on our faces. The girls were awarded their certificates and special award during Golden Assembly this morning and Summer, 5Q was awarded with the Player of the Tournament award for her football and exemplary team player skills. Miss Mitton, Mr Awofisan and Mrs Whittington are so proud of these girls and how they represented Fairford Academy Barnehurst.

  • Young Voices 25th Anniversary Concert

    Fri 29 Apr 2022

Our FAB choir had a fantastic evening representing Fairford Academy Barnehurst at the Young Voices 25th Anniversary Concert at the O2 Arena.

The choir began their day with a coach trip to the O2 Arena where they ate their lunch and started getting excited about the evening events. Finally, they entered the huge arena, along with over 7000 other children from schools across the South East, and started a three hour long rehearsal which was so much fun!

In the evening, they were joined in the arena by parents and gave them a show to remember. The choir were joined by Laura Wright, Beatbox Collective and Urban Strides who entertained them all. What an amazing opportunity for our school choir.

All of the staff who accompanied the children commented that it was the best evening ever and were so proud of each and every member of the FAB School Choir.

  • Youth Unity Workshop for Year 6 Pupils

    Fri 22 Apr 2022

All Year 6 pupils at Fairford Academy Barnehurst attended a transition workshop with Youth Unity in which they participated in a session tackling issues that affect children, young people and the community that they live in. The programme was developed in response to national attention on the increase of violence, criminal exploitation and associated vulnerability of children. It focussed on wellbeing and keeping themselves safe which included; peer pressure, mixing with the wrong people, criminal activity, age responsibility and social media.

The feedback from pupils, staff and James, the workshop facilitator was excellent.

  • Trustees and Governors Visit

    Fri 18 Mar 2022

This week, Trustees and Governors visited our school to meet with pupils and staff. They had a tour of our FAB school and saw the wonderful learning offer that our pupils received. They watched presentations about our curriculum developments, our teaching and learning pedagogy, early reading and phonics and Early Years. They looked at how attendance and progress is improving across our schools before finishing exploring governance across the Trust.

It was a positive day and the Trustees and Governors were impressed with how our pupils presented themselves and how engaged they were with their learning.

We also welcomed five members of staff from a local Trust in Dartford who were also very impressed with our school and again, particularly with our pupils. They said our pupils are very well behaved, really interested in their learning and extremely proud of their own school. They were very impressed with how they conducted themselves within lessons and around the school and how #happyandbright our school is.

  • Author and Poet Visit

    Tue 08 Mar 2022

We were privileged to be visited by Author Clare Luther and Poet Zohab Zee Khan. Clare held special assemblies with pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 during which they enjoyed listening to the story of Olive the sausage dog who was afraid of sand. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the story and were fully engaged throughout, asking questions and getting involved in the rhyming story.

Meanwhile, in KS2, pupils took part in a poetry workshop with Zohab who delighted them with humorous poems and inspired them to write their own 'What if...?' poems. The pupils were fully engaged and really enjoyed having the opportunity to create their own masterpieces.

A huge thank you to Clare and Zohab for giving our pupils this amazing opportunity.

'I would just like to say thank you so much to the school for last Tuesday, thank you for organising this day. My daughter had the most amazing time and her class teacher said that she has never seen her so excited with anything. Thank you so much, the girls were so excited, they absolutely loved it. Thank you all so much for your love and care for our children'. Parent of a Nursery and Reception child.

  • World Book Day

    Thu 03 Mar 2022

All of the pupils and staff had such a fun day dressing up as their favourite book characters to celebrate the 25th anniversary of World Book Day!

We held special assemblies for each key stage and winners were awarded with a certificate and a lovely new book to enjoy. Our teachers and teaching assistants also got involved and our Year 6 Reading Ambassadors voted for who they thought was the best dressed and most creative. They gave bonus points for the use of recycled materials linking to our Environmental Theme for book week.

Well done to our EYFS team who were 'The Three Little Pigs', Miss Mahoney who was 'The Worst Witch' and Mr Naidoo who was 'Gangster Granny'.
