COVID CATCH-UP PREMIUM
Fairford Academy Barnehurst has been allocated £44,240.
The Government has recognised that “Children and young people across the country have experienced unprecedented disruption to their education as a result of coronavirus (COVID-19)" and have allocated funding to address this.
The funding can be used for specific activities to support pupils to catch up for lost teaching during lockdown and schools have the flexibility to spend this funding in the best way for their cohort and circumstances.
At Fairford, we have allocated the funding in the following ways:
- The use of the Nuffield Early Language Intervention (NELI) with reception children. NELI is a high-quality language intervention with daily activities to support oral language and early literacy skills, running over 20 weeks from January 2021.
- The use of the Lightning Squad Intervention (FFT/Success for All) with children from years 1 and 2. This is a reading tutoring programme where pupils work with a tutor in two cooperative pairs, taking turns as 'Reader' and 'Coach'. The tutoring is a blended approach with in-person tutoring supported by an online tutoring platform. Tutoring activities are designed to improve reading skills, fluency, comprehension, spelling and phonics.
- The use of 2 extra Teaching Assistants (4 days a week each) to concentrate on targeted interventions across years 1/2/3/4/5. Year 6 already have allocated extra intervention from our school budget. The interventions will cover a range of core skills, for example, phonics, vocabulary and language, reading, writing, maths skills, etc.
The impact of this funding will be monitored to ensure maximum impact with our pupils.
